The power IN the lyrics

Biblical-wisdom

I’m reminded quite often that what makes so many of the books I enjoy…enjoyable, is that they’re filled with eternal truths.  The realization strikes that the reason this is so, is because these authors have echoed Scripture.

The same is true with many of my favorite Christian artists.  Their music (lyrics) is powerful because it draws from the Ultimate Power…The Bible.

A favorite song of mine for the last year has been Crowder’s “Come as you are”.  I was privileged to share a message that came out of the song and has its roots in Scripture.

COME AS YOU ARE

Come out of sadness from wherever you’ve been

Everyone has a struggle, the reality is that we all live in a fallen world. (Adam’s sin & our own) Romans 3:23

23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

Come broken hearted let rescue begin

We all need to be rescued/saved…none of us can do it ourselves…God has been initiating this from the foundations of time.     John 3:16

16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave[g] his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

Come find your mercy, Oh sinner come kneel

Mercy means not getting what we do deserve (wages = death), when we call on The LORD.  Romans 6:23

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can’t heal

Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can’t heal

Our true home, and the peace and joy that we’ll experience forever can start now.  (bringing Heaven to Earth)     Matthew 6:9-10

9 Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.

10 May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.

So lay down your burdens, lay down your shame

Jesus invites us to let go of our struggles, drop our problems and take on His yolk which is light.  For those in Christ there is no shame (condemnation)…it has been permanently blotted out.  Romans 8:1

1 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.

All who are broken, lift up your face

Lifting our face is to turn our gaze, our attention, our focus on God (Love The LORD your God) Deuteronomy 6:4-5

4 “Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone.[a] 5 And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.

Oh wanderer come home, You’re not too far

We will never be beyond God’s reach

So lay down your hurt, lay down your heart

Trust God and His righteousness (saved by Him not by us).  Eph. 2:8

8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.

Come as you are

There is no reason to delay.    John 5:24

24 “I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.

There’s hope for the hopeless

Confident expectation – a certainty yet realized.   1John 5:13

13 I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.

And all those who’ve strayed

Come sit at the table

As adopted children of The KING’S He invites us to sit with Him forever, with every privilege that could bring with no greater being His very presence…HOLY SPIRIT right now.  2Sam 9:13

13 And Mephibosheth, who was crippled in both feet, lived in Jerusalem and ate regularly at the king’s table.

Come taste the grace

Unmerited favor, getting what we don’t deserve.   Romans 5:20

20 God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant.

There’s rest for the weary

Rest that endures

Strong tower, ultimate fortress, refuge.    Proverbs 18:10

10 The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe.

Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can’t cure

Come as you are

Rev. 22:17

17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” Let anyone who hears this say, “Come.” Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life.

Fall in His arms, come as you are

Jesus endured Calvary so that He can make this invitation…at the end of His arms are nail-pierced hands that invite you to come.  1 Cor 15:57

57 But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.

There’s joy for the morning, Oh sinner be still

Far better than any temporary happiness but an eternal wellness firmly rooted in God that will surpass anything we’ve ever felt apart from The Father.  Isaiah 51:11

11 Those who have been ransomed by the Lord will return. They will enter Jerusalem[c] singing, crowned with everlasting joy. Sorrow and mourning will disappear, and they will be filled with joy and gladness.

Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can’t heal

Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can’t heal

Spiritual healing…once genuinely done it can never be un-done.  John 10:28

28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me,
